The Montgomery-Opelika District consists of ninety United Methodist churches in Montgomery, Macon, Lee, Russell, Bullock, Pike, Tallapoosa, Covington, and Crenshaw counties. The most recent statistics indicate that our churches have a combined membership of 25,038 persons.  Our district lies in both the Eastern and Central Time zones.  There are eighty-six clergy and thousands of dedicated laity serving in churches and communities across our district.

Our district is privileged to have five active missions within its bounds. The Auburn University Wesley Foundation, the Troy University Wesley Foundation and the Tuskegee University Wesley Foundation engage hundreds of students in Christian nurture, outreach, and witness. Alabama Rural Ministries (ARM), located in Auburn, hosts mission teams from our district, our conference, and all over the country.  These teams provide children’s day camps and repair homes for deserving families in some of Alabama’s poorest communities.  Communities of Transformation (COT) is a missional partnership by which persons who are committed to moving out of poverty participate in a larger community of volunteer companions and advocates.  COT is active in Phenix City and is in the exploring or beginning phases in Montgomery, Union Springs, and Troy.

In addition to these shared missions, the churches of our district are very involved in local, regional and international ministries.  In 2015, 8,403 persons volunteered to serve others through their local churches.   These volunteers served a total of 37,419 persons, the vast majority of whom were not members of their churches.   Our churches contributed $2.65 million towards helping people beyond their local churches.
